It is becoming increasingly difficult to consolidate and operate data from different units. Software (excel or anything) is not able to relate and join data pertaining to same entities. As we are having district and mandalwise unique codes, I propose that we should encourage their usage. The unique codes sourced from NREGS and CCLA are perfect upto mandal level. We will be able to iron out the issues in the next levels of GPs and habitations very soon as well.
In my opinion codes are easier than enforcing a uniform spelling for all entities across the state.

I donot fully agree with the argument as in the field one can associate the villages, GPs with names rather than codes and also agree that we at SERP need to make a effort to make people to report in the approved standardised formats (of all functionaries) from the ground and these can be easily consolidated at the state level for proper reporting. Once the finalisation of mandal from each component is complete, we can ask each function to report in this names/codes to MIS function in future.
you are quite right in that names are better to be recalled than a complex(?) numeric code. Nonetheless the chances of errors- be it a small typing error or a local synonym- is humongous compared to codes. Further the errors crept in the names are extremely difficult to detected and resolved considering the volume of data SERP is dealing.
